QUIPS FROM A NATIVE SPEAKER
By Anna Cailles
California,USA
As a native English speaker born and raised in the United States, I had not given much thought as to how much effort it takes for non-native speakers to master the complex yet beautiful English Language. Having lived and worked in the Silicon Valley of California, a melting pot of diverse nationalities, everyone communicates in the English language fluently, even if peppered with the regional accents of individual speakers.
When my family and I relocated to the Philippines several years ago, I was astonished to find nationals from neighboring Asian countries flocking in droves to the Philippines, seeking to learn English from Filipinos. I was proud that my indigenous homeland deemed English important enough to incorporate its use as a second language. However, a lot of Filipinos still need additional training in English Fluency.
In order to take active part in today’s global scene, mere knowledge of or basic comprehension of English is not enough. Even a complete understanding of English grammar rules and sentence structures is rendered inadequate if a person cannot fluently communicate specially in speaking. Effective communication skills are vital to one’s success in this day and age, and with that, mastery in English, today’s global medium in communication, is an absolute must.
How is Philippine International Communicators “a cut above” the numerous English schools and training centers available to Filipinos and foreign nationals? Simply because,PIC seeks to develop people to communicate FLUENTLY and EFFECTIVELY in English.
PIC is not just another English school. One of the highest goals of PIC is to develop people who will use English in exemplifying excellence in communication skills, thereby boosting the level of professionalism, which in turn betters our community, both local and global.
PIC also has the honor of training English teachers, who wish to educate their students (local and foreign alike) on how to fluently communicate in today’s language of choice.
I am proud to be a part of PIC, and hope we can be of service to you in developing you as a communicator and as a professional, whatever your line of work.
